Kenya has introduced the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system, replacing the traditional visa process for most international travelers. The eTA is a mandatory travel authorization that allows eligible visitors to enter Kenya for tourism, business, Kenya visa requirements, family visits, and other short-term purposes. Travelers are advised to apply online before their departure to ensure a smooth entry experience.

To apply for a Kenya eTA, applicants must possess a valid passport with at least six months of validity from the date of arrival. The passport should also contain at least one blank page for entry and exit stamps. Travelers are required to provide a recent passport-sized photograph that meets official standards and upload a clear copy of their passport's biographical information page during the application process.

Applicants must submit details about their travel plans, including intended dates of arrival and departure, accommodation information, and a return or onward travel ticket. Depending on the purpose of travel, additional supporting documents may be required. Business travelers may need an invitation letter from a Kenyan company, while visitors staying with family or friends may be asked to provide host details or an invitation letter.

A valid email address is necessary because all application updates and the approved eTA are delivered electronically. Travelers should carefully review all information before submission, as errors may result in processing delays or rejection. Payment of the applicable processing fee is required to complete the application.

Although processing times are generally quick, applicants are encouraged to apply several days before their planned travel date to avoid last-minute complications. Approval of an eTA does not automatically guarantee entry into Kenya, as immigration officials at the port of entry retain the authority to make the final admission decision.

Travelers should carry a printed or digital copy of their approved eTA along with supporting travel documents when arriving in Kenya. It is also important to ensure that all travel information matches the details provided during the application process. By meeting the Kenya eTA requirements and preparing the necessary documents in advance, visitors can enjoy a more efficient and convenient travel experience when entering the country.
